From Braga you would have to change at Porto(Campanha) and Vigo in Spain.

There are two trains per day between Porto(Campanha) and Vigo. The following info is based on the current timetables provided by renfe.es and cp.pt and are for informational purposes only..

La Coruna - Geneva

I have spent some time on this one and yes, it is difficult.

There are only two trains a day linking Vigo to Porto and these each take +-4hrs:30 min. La Coruna - Vigo by train takes a further 2 hours!

La Coruna is a lot further than Vigo so I really don't think this route is doable by public transport.

If you have a car, the distance is 301km taking about 3:30 mins.

As regards buses there are services from La Coruna to Porto Airport operated by alsa.es

However, the Friday La Coruna to Porto to service operates too late to tie in with the flight from Porto.

On Thursday however, there is a bus from La Coruna Bus Station to Porto Airport leaving at 09:00 arriving 12:30.

There is then a direct flight from Porto to Geneva operated by Easyjet.com as follows

Thursday July 4th

Porto to Geneva

dep. 13:55, arr. 17:00

For the return there is a flight leaving Geneva for Porto as follows:

Sunday July 6th

Geneva to Porto

dep. 13:40, arr. 14:55

However, the current return price is about € 200.

There is a bus from Porto Airport to La Coruna as follows:

Easyjet's Summer La Coruna - Madrid service has not yet be confirmed. Not available till 18th May.
It may be that there will be better routings via this route.

However, you might want to have a look at routing via Barcelona although the transit times are somewhat short.

Porto, Portugal to Santiago da Compostela, Galicia, Spain by Public Transport

There are two public transport options for travelling between Porto and Santiago da Compostela.

Train:

There is a twice daily "Celta" train connecting Porto Campanha Station and Vigo in Galicia. Only the morning train has an onward connection to Santiago da Compostela according to renfe.es, the Spanish Railways website.

Bus/Coach

Transit Time: 4h00 (Note time in Spain is one hour ahead of Portugal.)

This service operates via Porto Airport (15 minutes later), Braga and Vigo.

Santiago da Compostela to Lisbon

Sorry, have been off-line unexpectedly for the week-end.

www.alsa.es have a bus departure from from Santiago da Compostela at 10:00 (Spanish Time) routing via Porto and arriving Lisbon Oriente at 18:00.

There are no direct trains between S. de Compostela and Porto.

You would need to get the 05:50 from S. de Compostela arriving Vigo at
07:37. Then the 07:40 from Vigo arriving Porto at 09:55 (Portuguese Time) Then the 10:52 from Porto arriving Lisbon Sta. Apolonia 14:00.

As regards booking tickets, Bus Station in Santiago is probably the best.

For trains, probably Vigo Station for the Sector Vigo to Porto and then Porto station for the Porto to Lisbon.

You can try the only websites from bookins but they can be difficult and slow at times.

You best bet is probably the bus as you should be able to book a through ticket.

Unfortunately no there is no easy way that ties in with your arrival time.

Following today's summit between the Portuguese and Spanish Governments' it has been confirmed that as from summer timetables 2014 there will be one direct through train daily between Porto and Vigo!

Stop Press - Porto - Vigo Rail Service cancelled.

The national newspaper "Publico" has just reported that CP (Portuguese Railways) is stopping its service between Porto and Vigo as from next Sunday, 10th July 2011.

Henceforth, the only public transport connections between the North of Portugal and the Galicia region of Sapin will be by bus.

"We are travelling to Lisbon in March, hoping to rent a car to go up to oporto, then on into Spain to our daughter in Madrid and fly back to the UK from there. The problem is no-one except Avis will do an international one way rental at an extortionate price. We can get a car that will get us as far as Braganca in the north east of Portugal but how do we get from there into somewhere in Spain, eg Zamora or Salamanca, where we might be able to pick up a spanish car? grateful for any ideas."

In brief, with great difficulty!

There are no easy public transport links between towns in the interior of Portugal near the Spanish Border and Spain.

One Possible option however might be to head North from Porto to Viana da Castelo and then get the twice daily train from there to Vigo where you could pick up another hire car.

Travel from Portugal to Spain and/or Morocco

If you have a home in Figueira da Foz for two weeks why visit Spain and Morocco?

Figueira da Foz is situated almost equidistant between Porto and Lisbon and only 40 kms from the historic University Town of Coimbra.

With a hire car or by train you should have enough to do in these towns and surrounding centres such as Obidos, Alcobaça, Tomar, Batalha, Sintra and Torres Vedras to take up at least a week to two weeks of your time.

Visiting Morocco from here would require a long days (7 to 8 hours) drive to Algeciras, a ferry crossing, a couple of days in somewhere like Tangier and then a ferry crossing and a a long days drive.

Only Royal Air Maroc operate flights from Lisbon to Casablanca. It is not possible to check prices online but I suspect that they will be pricey.

As regards Spain, if you do want to do an excursion, be aware that is it a large country and that there are many beautiful cities and towns to visit.

From Figueira da Foz, I would recommend a route by hire car that took you from there, via the IP1 onto the IP5 through Guarda and then to Salamanca.

This would take about 3 to 4 hours. Salamanca is a wonderful University city and the site of one of the famous Napoleonic War Battles.

Spend the night there - the IBIS Hotel is good. Central and stayed there in December 2007.

Alternatively, you could run North via Porto and Braga and visit Vigo and the famous pilgrimage and University Town of Santiago da Compostela.

Do not forget that there are good intercity bus services in Spain and Portugal.

Honestly, there is so much to do in the immediate area as I described, that a Moroccan diversion by air via Madrid on a low cost airline to my way of thinking is a bit of a waste of resources.

Bear in mind that it will take you a day to get to Morocco flying via Madrid - It will take 90 minutes by car to Lisbon Airport, a 2 hour check-in, 1 hour flight - up to 90 minutes on the ground at Madrid Barajas Airport and then a 90 minute flight to your destination and then immigration and then to the hotel. Probably in the order of 7-8 hours minimum provided there are no delays on the Lisbon Madrid route. Remember with low-costs if you buy 2 different sectors and your incoming one is late they will not wait for you and you may have to buy another ticket for the second sector.

Honestly, I do suggest you review the Morocco option.

If want to do other countries/cities why not look at Barcelona which is a great city. You can get low costs daily from Lisbon with ClickAir. Despite your comment, I have just had a look at Clickair's site and they no seem to currently operate Lisbon to Madrid.

Vueling.com is low cost airline that operates this route. However, do not buy your ticket yet as there is a real possibility they may merge with ClickAir or another airline in the next few months.

Also bear in mind that Ryanair operate flights to the following destinations from Porto Airport just over 90 minutes from Figueira da Foz by Car which are in or near the towns mentioned:

Bergamo - Italy - 60km from Milan but a wonderful old hilltop city. I was there last year.
Pisa - Italy
Valencia - Spain

Again don't book until nearer the time as Ryanair are renowned for terminating routes without notice.

Volareweb.com also operate Porto - Milan Malpensa.

Regrettably, you are probably stuck. It is not just an air strike, it is a full blown Euro-Zone French/Greek Style National Strike. 90% of the country will be down. The trains will be out, most local buses will be out and it is highly likely long-distance buses will be out as well! There are no long distance buses from Braga to Spain. Vigo would be your only alternative, but you would need to get to Porto to get the bus to Vigo if it is operating!!! The Spanish Company http://www.autna.es operates a daily weekday service from Porto Airport to Vigo at the following times: OPORTO, AEROPUERTO 9:45 12:45 16:45 19:45 Transit time takes about 3 hours. I am not hopeful though that this service will operate on Wednesday. Basically, despite your comments, be prepared to have to stay until Thursday. Lisbon to Vigo

The only daily connecting bus service is one that leaves Lisbon Gare Oriente Bus Station at 09:15 arriving Vigo 17:30.

However, it is possible to do the trip by train:

There is an Alpha-Pendular Express train that leaves Lisbon Gare Oriente at 14:09 arriving at Porto Campanha Station at 16:46. There is a train leaving Porto Campanha Station at 17:55 arriving Vigo at 22:12 Spanish Time.

You can get a the Carris Aeroshuttle bus to Gare Oriente just outside the airport arrivals level. This leaves every 30 minutes between 07:00 and 23:00 and goes directly to the airport for a cost of +- € 3.00

Alternatively, take a taxi to Gare Oriente. Its only 10 minutes away.

You should try to get to the station as earl as possible to get a ticket.

Porto to La Coruna (Spain)

There are three options:

1) Rail:

Two through train departures daily from Porto Campanha station to Vigo in Spain at

07:55 arriving 12:15

and

17:55 arriving 22:37

Connecting Through trains to A Coruna are:
