La Coruna - Geneva

I have spent some time on this one and yes, it is difficult.

There are only two trains a day linking Vigo to Porto and these each take +-4hrs:30 min. La Coruna - Vigo by train takes a further 2 hours!

La Coruna is a lot further than Vigo so I really don't think this route is doable by public transport.

If you have a car, the distance is 301km taking about 3:30 mins.

As regards buses there are services from La Coruna to Porto Airport operated by alsa.es

However, the Friday La Coruna to Porto to service operates too late to tie in with the flight from Porto.

On Thursday however, there is a bus from La Coruna Bus Station to Porto Airport leaving at 09:00 arriving 12:30.

There is then a direct flight from Porto to Geneva operated by Easyjet.com as follows

Thursday July 4th

Porto to Geneva

dep. 13:55, arr. 17:00

For the return there is a flight leaving Geneva for Porto as follows:

Sunday July 6th

Geneva to Porto

dep. 13:40, arr. 14:55

However, the current return price is about € 200.

There is a bus from Porto Airport to La Coruna as follows:

Dept Porto Airport 00.45H Arrive La Corunna 06.00H

Easyjet's Summer La Coruna - Madrid service has not yet be confirmed. Not available till 18th May.
It may be that there will be better routings via this route.

However, you might want to have a look at routing via Barcelona although the transit times are somewhat short.

July 4th.

La Coruna to Barcelona - Spanair

09:35 La Coruna 11:10 Barcelona

Barcelona to Geneva

Easyjet

12:05 Barcelona 13:40 Geneva

or

La Coruna to Barcelona - Spanair

15:25 La Coruna 17:00 Barcelona

Barcelona to Geneva - Easyjet

18:05 Barcelona 19:40 Geneva

Geneva to Barcelona - Easyjet

10:20 Geneva 11:50 Barcelona

Barcelona to La Coruna - Spanair

12:50 Barcelona 14:35 La Coruna

I would suggest that if you can get hold of a car, driving to Porto would probably be the best option.

As regards, rental accomodation in La Coruna, I unfortunately live in the Algarve in the South of Portugal and am not local to La Coruna.

However, if you would like to visit my blog,

http://barlaventostravelblog.blogspot.com/

scroll down to the bottom of the right hand panel, and click on "View my complete profile", you could then click on email and send me your requirements. I will then see if I can assist although it may take some time.

Train/Bus from Lisbon to La Coruna

Unfortunately there is no direct train service between Lisbon and La Coruna.

You would need first to get to Porto, then Vigo and then La Coruna.

See these articles on my blog for previous articles on this:

http://barlaventostravelblog.blogspot.com/search?q=la+coruna

I have also published there an extract from the current Lisbon - La Coruna Bus service operated by Internorte. (Click on the image to enlarge it.)

Lisbon - Oviedo

Regretably, this will not be an easy routing.

There are no easy direct train services.

Asla.es operate a daily coach service as follows:

Lisbon Sete Rios Bus Station:19:30
La Coruna: 06:00 next day

La Coruna: 09:30

Porto to Oviedo

This will not be easy! There are no direct trains or buses.

You best bet appears to be the bus service four times per day between Porto and La Coruna which take about five hours.

Then from La Coruna to Oviedo you get another bus (four or five per day) with the same company to Oviedo again taking about 5 hours.

Cost will be about +-€ 50 each way

You can find the web site here:

www.alsa.es

For the return to Lisbon you would have to either come back by the same route via Porto or route via MIRANDA DE EBRO.

There is a train from Oviedo that leaves at 19:34 and connects with the daily train from Paris to Lisbon leaving MIRANDA DE EBRO at 00:40 and arriving in Lisbon at 11.03.

For more information see www.renfe.es

Coimbra & Porto to San Sebastian

Coimbra is definitely worth a visit.

It is one of the oldest Universities in Europe with roots dating back to the 1200's.

The student life melds with the fabric of the city

Its location on the Mondego River has been historically critical and there have been settlements there or near there since roman time.

For some more info have a look at this recent article:

http://barlaventostravelblog.blogspot.pt/2013/01/coimbra-portugal.html

There are plenty of low-cost pensions in Coimbra.

There is also a "Pousada de Juventude", state youth hostel.

See also: http://www.turismodecoimbra.pt/index.php?lang=en

As regards travelling to San Sebastian/Donastia from Porto you basically have two routes:

1) Through Galicia via Vigo, Santiago da Compostela, La Coruna, Oviedo, Santander and Bilbao.

2) Via Salamanca, Valladolid, Burgos, Vitoria, and Bilbao.

This can all be done by long distance coach (See: alsa.es) or train. (See renfe.es / www.cp.pt)

On both routes, there are historic cities worth visiting. In Bilbao you also have the Guggenheim.

There are other cities in the region like Zamora, Ourense, and Leon among others that might interest you.

Basically you need to have a look at the articles on these cities on wikipedia. Decide which ones interest you and then plan your itinerary from there.
